This last week...

...I have still been on leave and loving it! The Boyf and I stayed on a wonderful fruit farm in a small little cottage with no electricity. It was amazing! I did yoga everyday to this view...

...I have been doing all the NB health check ups; optometrist, dentist, dermatologist. Am getting all my moles checked out. I know 3 people who have gotten melanomas, under the age of 30, and it's flipping scary. Wish me luck!

...I celebrated my birthday. It was wonderful to see all my friends and they all made me feel super special and loved! Thank you to them all.

...I have been sucked into my TV series addiction. This round it's Scandal/The Fixer (how beautiful is Kerry Washington), Devious Maids, Blacklist and Breaking Bad. So much to see, so little time!!!

...yet again another truly disgusting attack on wildlife. I'm sure a lot of you have seen the horrendous pics circulating on FB of the killing of hundreds of Calderon dolphins on the Danish coast of Feroe Island.
It seems to be some sick rite of passage that the teenagers take part in.

It's just too horrendous for words.

On the macabre note, I do hope you have a fabulous week and thanks for taking the time to stop by!

Things I learnt last week

                                                                     source

  • having 2 x 30th birthday parties is the way to go! Feeling so spoilt.
  • no matter how many times I go to Moyo, I always love it.
  • life is precious! Whether it is a new life or an old one (RIP Whitney)
  • finding a lost kitten and finding it a home, is so rewarding, but sad too.
  • I really am blessed to have such wonderful friends and family :)

I am finally home!

I cannot tell you how amazing it has been to come back to South Africa, and back to Cape Town. I don't think I truly realised how much I had missed it, until I was back.

The last few days have been wonderful. I started off celebrating my 30th birthday. From being spoilt rotten by getting a  phenomenal Canon 1100 EOS from The Boyf and all my friends, to a last meal at Jamie Oliver's, to ending my final night in London with all the special people in my life. BUT...Friday morning was not fun! I was hungover, not fully packed and the moving people came to fetch my boxes that I was shipping home at 8am! I arrived at Heathrow later that day, with my suitcase weighing 32kg. The check-in lady was not sympathetic to my inability to pack only "necessary" things when immigrating. That being said, I was that "person", who has to open their suitcase in front of everyone, with underwear hanging out the sides, trying to remove a few kilograms.

Eventually I was on the plane, too nauseous to be sad at saying goodbye to The Boyf, ready for the long haul flight. I settled in quickly with a tomato cocktail in hand and swooning over Ryan Gosling in Drive.

Finally being back on African soil, has been a revelation. I have spent the past 2 days by the pool, eating lobster with the family, walks on the beach. BLISS!

Ageing and Packing

Tomorrow is my 30th birthday. I have been dreading this day for the entire year of being 29, but now that it has arrived, I have so many other things to organise, like my moving my ENTIRE life to a different continent, that I haven't had time to worry about it or fixate on the loss of my twenties. In high school I had a timeline, as most girls do. This is how it went:

26: meet the man of my dreams - fail
28: get married (after having been engaged for 1 year) - fail
29-30: have a child - fail  (although if I get preggers now I could squeeze it in)
31: have second child - fail (could work if I had twins!)

So things are looking pretty dismal according to my 16 year old dreams, but what the hell.

Trying to pack up your entire life for the 6th time in 6 years, is getting a bit old and definitely a bit tiring. I have been so good! I had the help of a wonderful friend, who helped me sort through my clothes and so I have a whole pile to donate to charity...only I keep sneaking things from the pile, back into me boxes :)

Wish me luck!

Happy Birthday Madiba

Nelson Mandela turns 93 today and it is a day we should all celebrate. People have been asked to donate 67 minutes of their time to work in their local community, one minute for each year of Mandela's service.

I am finally back and back to work :(
Have loads of pics to post of my wonderful trip to Spain. I think I am in love with Spain. The people, the olives, the beaches, the buildings, the sangria, the language, the art and the best of all......The Paella.

Black Swan

One of my birthday wishes last week was to watch the much talked about movie, Black Swan.

I was absolutely blown away by this movie and it was one of the BEST movies I have ever watched. The cast is star-studded, the costumes are beautiful and the dancing..........to die for! I swear that this movie will have a huge effect/backlash on the "uncultured" public, who will reconsider going to the ballet to watch a Swan Lake production, so kudos to the producers of Black Swan for having a positive effect on the Arts.

I am looking forward to seeing it again, so I can fully appreciate the intricacy of the details, the portrayal of the black vs white characters and the final transformation into the Black Swan.

If you haven't watched it yet.....watch this trailer

This movie has something for everyone.....the most exquisite ballet, thrilling moments that make you hide behind your hands in fear, a tiny lesbian moment for the guys and a lot of crotch touching (which I did not enjoy).

Be warned, Natalie Portman's body is a bit scary at times. She is literally just made of muscle and sinew. Apparently she trained for 18 months to get the dancing perfect, and does it all herself (I have heard talk of CGI use, but I am not going to believe it!). I know nothing about ballet, but OMG she is brilliant! And besides learning some kick ass moves and raking up the awards, she has shacked up with the dance choreographer and is expecting his baby, so all in all not a bad run for little Nat.

I heart Mila Kunis. I think she is stunning and I love her cheeky, relaxed character in this film. She might just make it onto my girl crush list.

I am slowly making my way through the list of Oscar movies, so come the big night, I can sit on couch and give my own two cents worth!

VOTE: Natalie for Best Actress......haven't watched any of the other movies, but my money is on her!

Birthday Bliss

So Little Miss Medic turned 29 last week. The last year before the big 3-0!

I had a perfect day filled with fun, shopping and pampering. I also got totally spoilt and got loads of beautiful presents, namely jewellery....the best kind of present!

I also had my hair done and decied to go brown. Big shock from the blonde that I have had for EVER. ie always. I am slowly getting used to it, but the scariest thing was seeing it when it was wet, it had a red tinge. I wanted to die, especially since I have just posted my theory on Gingers this week.

Yesterday I got onto the tube. There was one seat left. It was next to a GINGER boy. What to do? Sit next to him....or stand. I decided to stand :) What would you do?

Stay tuned for pics of my presents.
