I won some amazing goodies a while back on the lovely Jacci's blog, What Jacci Did Next. Initially I had been given the wrong parcel at the Post Office, ending up with church paraphernalia, but eventually I got my grubby paws on the real deal.

getting parcels always makes me feel like a small, excited kid!

I won yummy Starbucks coffee bags (like a teabag but with coffee) and awesome Cath Kidston stuff (tissues, lip balm, badges and a cute mini purse).

Parcel Mishap

I received one of those lovely little slips from the Post Office recently, which meant I had something exciting to collect. I had an inkling that it might be the giveaway that I won on Jacci's blog. I collected my parcel and when I was about to open it, I read a note stuck on the front. It was addressed to the local Anglican Church and not Little Miss Medic. It was also an invoice for communion wafers. It must be a sign.............sigh.

Happy Nikolaus!

Today is Nikolaus Day, a traditional celebration in Germany on the 6th of December. Nikolaus is not Father Christmas, that is the Weihnachtsmann, he is Nicholas Of Myra, who died in 346. He was a Greek Christian Bishop, who was known for secretly giving gifts and performing miracles. Traditionally children leave their polished boots outside on the 5th of December and Nikolaus would come on a donkey and fill them with coins, oranges and toys.

Crazy

Why are there so many crazy people in this world?

Last week I saw 8 crazy patients in one day. When I say crazy, what I actually mean is properly F*%ked in the head!


Patient 1:

He decided to OD on paracetamol....AGAIN! It is probably his 20th attempt to kill himself. Funny thing is he never quite takes enough tablets to do it, but enough that the ambulance brings him in.


Patient 2:

Sees aeroplanes flying into buildings.


Patient 3:

Has "fake" seizures. Most amusing to watch. Her whole body shakes when doctors are around. Disappear and they stop.


Patient 4:

Drunk. Looks homeless. Thinks the water in his flat is poisonous so he comes to the hospital to drink the water from the water cooler.


Patient 5,6, 7:

Just your normal crazy


Patient 8:

Swallows things. She deserves her own post and I will tell you more about her later this week!

First day back at work

After my harrowing experience of eventally getting home from Greece sans luggage, I arrived at work the next day hoping for a relaxed day, so that I could ease myself back into work. NO SUCH LUCK!

My first patient was slightly psychotic and decided to throw her mobile at me (being assaulted on the first day back is never a good omen of things to come). Luckily I managed to duck the approaching missile and it hit the wall, shattering into pieces.

Why are drunk patients the MOST annoying type of patient?

Yesterday I had 2 such patients. Susan and Paul.

Paul drank 3 litres of cider a day. He decided to come to the A+E because he had a problem with his one leg that was swollen. It had been swollen for 6 months, but today it was so sore he could hardly make it out of the house to buy the standard cider and decided that something had to be done, as this was now serious.

Susan drank 1/2 a bottle of vodka and smoked 30 cigarettes a day. She had drunken her poor pancreas into absolution and was vomiting her guts out and in severe pain. Vodka will do that to you...

Little girls will be naughty sometimes...

Yesterday I met a little girl, who was 3. Her name was Sophie and she had a bead up her nose. Her parents didn't know how long it had been there for but had noticed that she kept rubbing her nose.

After shining a light up her left nostril, I spotted a large green, plastic bead.

I explained to Sophie that she had to hold very still so I could remove the foreign body. Mom even had a chocolate for afterwards as a bribe.

Sophie looked like such a good girl, until I approached her armed with my penlight and mini forceps. She started to shake her head and screamed "I don't want to!".
Eventually we had her pinned down by Mom, Dad and a nurse. After a few attempts at grabbing the damn thing and her squirming, I finally prised the snot-covered bead from her nose.

The bead was HUGE! I showed it to them and gave it back to Sophie. She promptly shoved it up her right nostril!

FUCK!

I have now learnt my lesson and will never give them back the foreign body that they shoved up one orifice or another!

Rockwerchter was amazing, but I feel slightly scarred. I realise that I am too old to party till 5am 5 nights in a row, dance in the mud and then sleep in a rain soaked tent. I loved it but I can proudly say that that was my first and last music festival! On the 4th night I almost had a break down and demanded that The Boyf drive me back to London IMMEDIATELY! He obviously refused my request and watching Chris Martin rock on the stage that night a mere 10m from me, made it all worth it.

Today I am on my way to Spain for some fun in the sun for the next 10 days. I will try post as much as possible, but no promises! I will post pics soon.........honest :)

LMM's 100th Post

So today is my 100th post and I have come a very long way.........here is my very first post.
So in honour of this and my loyal followers, I will be having a fabulous giveaway. These are a few of my favourite things at the moment that I have decided to buy for you....I hope you like them!

Crabtree make the best creams and soaps ever! La Source is one of my firm favourites and this handy tube can be kept in your handbag to keep your hands soft all day long.

Rimmel have designed a new type of nailpolish that comes with an extra wide brush. It means that you can paint one nail in 2 strokes and avoid unsightly ridges. This colour is a dark pink which I have on my toes at the moment. FAB!

I haven't had the chance to try out this new mascara from Rimmel, but the packaging is just so great....hot pink :)

A friend of mine living in Zimbabwe has hand made this! It is a solid silver heart on a purple string and proceeds go to children in need in Zimbabwe. If you aren't lucky enough to win this, contact me if you would like to buy some.

Dukan Disasters

It is Day 7 today and things are were plodding along nicely until the weekend. The sheer joy I have experienced at eating salads and veggies is totally out of proportion.

Yesterday we went to a good friend's baby shower. There were snacks. Of the carbohydrate nature. And cupcakes. And pita bread. I was dying a slow and painful death inside! The Boyf was having his own internal war. All The Boys were drinking BEER!

I did allow myself to be taken in by the Carb Monster and had a pita bread and a few fries........gulp.

The Boyf decided to stick to whiskey....the healthy choice. Pouring back the whiskeys at a steady pace, lead to the incongruous feeling of merriment at a baby shower :)

Anyway the evening ended with me feeling guilty and The Boyf cooking ALL the meat in our fridge at 00:00am in his state. I woke up this morning to the stench of meat............burnt meat. Oil splattered everywhere, a blocked sink and a snoring Boyf. Let us just say that we need a better strategy for public dining!

On another happy note. Tomorrow is Little Miss Medic's 100th post, so look out tomorrow for a fabulous giveaway that could be yours.
