First Call

Hello my lovelies. Sorry I have been MIA for the past few days, work has just been so hectic and I am still finding my feet. I did my first call on Friday night. This basically involves starting work on Friday morning at 8am and then working till 12pm the next day. For the last 2 years the longest shift I have done, has been a meager 12 hours, so I was shitting myself. How would I stay awake? I also accidentally left my CROCS in the UK. You can diss them all you want, they are ugly, they are fucking ugly! BUT they are heaven to wear when you have been going for 22 hours straight. I wore my New Balance trainers from 2001. They did not do the job and my poor feet were left feeling very tender when I got home.

The call went OK. I didn't get any sleep, but was so busy I didn't even feel tired. Everything was going well until 4am. A pregnant lady came in who had been at the clinic for 8 hours. Her baby was in fetal distress (not getting enough oxygen) and she should have been referred HOURS ago. We rushed her to theatre. I did the caesar and pulled out a blue, not breathing baby. The baby was resuscitated for 30 minutes but died a few hours later. It was a horrific event for a first call back and I was an emotional wreck afterwards. As I counselled the mother, she started to cry and I have a strict rule, never to be emotional in front of patients. But I couldn't. I balled like baby and have been carrying this heaviness with me ever since. I know things don't always turn out as expected and there is a lot of loss in the medical field, but it was too much for me to handle. I really don't want a death to be like water off a duck's back, to me it is still huge and if I am not touched by it, I know I have lost my humanity.

RIP

Amy Jade Winehouse

                                                                       source

The shocking news that Amy Winehouse was found dead in her Camden house on Saturday afternoon, has left me feeling pity and sadness for the 27 year old star. Rumours have emerged that she had been seen buying ectasy on Friday night and that a possible OD or "bad" tablet could've been the cause of death.

Amy was born in September 1983 to mother Janis and father Mitch. She attended the Sylvia Young Theatre School, but was asked to leave due to her attitude. Her first album Frank, went triple platinum and her second album, Back to Black won 5 Grammy Awards. Her most famous song, Rehab, is said to have been written a few hours after manager Simon Fuller urged her to go to rehab. In 2007 she married Blake Fielder-Civil and the marriage was one filled with alcohol, booze and fighting. She had a near fatal OD months after tying the knot and the marriage ended in divorce in 2010. Blake is currently in prison serving a burglary sentence and Amy always described him as the only person that really understood her.

Her current on-off boyfriend, film director Reg Traviss has described Winehouse as "inconsolable" at times. In the last few weeks of her life, she was using heroin, crack and cocaine heavily and the rest of her tour was cancelled after a inebriated performance in Belgrade, in which the crowd sang most of the songs as Amy stumbled around on stage. Her last appearance was on Wednesday at the iTunes festival where she was on stage with protege and goddaughter Dionne Bromfield.

Doctors had warned Winehouse of the disasterous effects her lifestyle would cause. She had emphysema already and would die if she didn't stop drinking and using soon.

As fans mourn the loss of great star, her Back to Black album has gone to number 1 on iTunes, knocking Adele's 21 album off the top.

She was a tormented soul but produced the most brilliant music and fans all around are hoping that the third album, which she had been working on for the past 5 years will be released posthumously.

This is how I will always remember her.......

Dukan Diet Day 2

If you haven't read Day 1, click here.

The meat is killing me.....literally!!!!!

I cannot force another little piece into my mouth.....NO MORE!

The rest of Day 1 was painful. For lunch I had grilled chicken breast, some ham and prawns. I ate one prawn and almost vomitted, so the rest got binned. Nausea and seafood don't really go well together. Have been feeling really dehydrated but am drinking shitloads and peeing like a donkey.

I barely made it through the day. Was feeling so tired and almost fell asleep while a patient was describing how some prostitute shoved her fingers up his bum.......

Went for dinner at a friend's house and had prewarned her about evil Dukan Dookie. She had also been following the diet and we had amazing kebabs and trout. (Thanks Cath!)

Yesterday I lost 1 kg, this morning I got on the scale and...........NOTHING!........not even 100g.......FUCK! Not sure if I can do this with no results. This sucks! I know its only Day 2 but it feels like Day 22 and I am getting ahead of myself by thinking of Day 7....ARRRGGGHHHHH!

No meat for breakfast, it really cannot be done. I had a yoghurt and stuffed my work bag with more yoghurts in preparation for my avoidance of meat.

Note: Vegans be warned.....you might DIE! if you do this diet! Literally!

Have you done any diets resulting in death?
