Ocsober

The Boyf has decided to do Ocsober (no drinking for the entire month of October). I have decided to be a good girlfriend and join him in this retarded endeavour.

After seeing annoying patients all day, all I want is a glass of red wine.

A big glass.

Maybe two.

Fuck this is going to be hard!

Are you doing Ocsober?

Males and their sport

The other day one of my BFFs were ranting about our significant others and their attachment to sports matches. I have come home many an afternoon, to find The Boyf watching the same cricket final from 1992, in which mullets and the tightie whites reign supreme. He urges me to watch the second ball from the 22nd over, "the one where we bowl an amazing wicket". When I ask why he keeps watching the same match that he has memorized by heart, he replies with a, "but it's so awesome!"

I know I watch a lot of shit TV, from Keeping up with The Kardashians to Honey Boo Boo, but I don't get the point of watching the same match over and over. On a sport filled Saturday, The Boyf has to watch the rugby match build-up from 2 hours before the match. Then the match, during which time talking is strictly prohibited and compulsory snacks of beer and biltong must be had. Then comes the overweight has-beens of rugby, talking about the match. And if that's not enough then come the highlights and 3 hours later, the same fucking match gets watched! It's soul destroying!

I'd far rather watch this!

Syringing Ears

Syringing some one's ears has got to be one of those tedious tasks that no-one enjoys. This job is usually done by your GP or an ENT specialist. Sometimes people come into the A+E to have their ears syringed, which is highly irritating as it can sometimes take up to 30 minutes to properly dislodge the wax or whatever else is in their ear. The only time it is vaguely exciting, is if someone has a foreign object or bug in their ear. I once got the hugest cockroach out of a patient's ear in Barberton, it was amazing...and disgusting.

The Boyf has been complaining that his right ear was painful and I had noticed that he often didn't hear me well and always turned the TV on full blast. He begged me to syringe his ears. I know that he last had it done about 5 years ago, by a mutual friend, when they were medical students, and he warned me that the crap that came out of his ears, was both horrifying and repulsive.

Being his girlfriend, I did not really want to see this, as it wouldn't really improve the romantic part of our relationship. Alas, there was no one else to do it and he kept saying he couldn't "hear" me asking him to put his dishes in the dishwasher or to take the rubbish out. It had to be done!

I got some warm water and the process began. Nothing happened for the first ten minutes and then...

I was expecting worse, but it was still pretty nauseating!

Tip of the day, get your ears cleaned out by someone you don't know, and do it on a regular basis.

Tattoos

I have always wanted a tattoo. For years now I have been putting it off! I haven't found anything meaningful enough to permanently ink on my skin. The area to tattoo also poses a great question. I have always thought the wrist would be awesome, but not too sure I'd like that after 10 years...

2 years ago, The Boyf and I went on holiday to Thailand. I was determined to get a tattoo there and you can literally get one at every street corner. One night I proposed a plan to The Boyf. We should both get tattoos, not matching ones though. We decided what we would each get and went for a few or a hundred cocktails beforehand. We found a tattoo joint and The Boyf decided to go first. He drew his design onto a piece of paper. It was a juvenile drawing at best. I watched as they prepared everything and was shocked as I saw they used the old method of tattooing, which involved ink in a bamboo stick attached to a blade. There was no way I would have tattoo that way! That being said, The Boyf left that night with a 3 year old's drawing on his right bum cheek and I left with none!

Now that I am in Greece, I have been pondering the following ideas....

But I would get my tattoo here....like Hilary Duff
